Design your own experience

WHILE
the hyper-competitive Experience Economy is nothing new, it is clear that we haven’t yet seen the full impact of the Instragram effect. Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH), in partnership with global trends analysts Trendwatching, has today launched a luxury trends report that looks ahead at what will be shaping the luxury boutique hotel experience in 2018.

In 2018 travellers will be looking to get their luxury hands ‘dirty’ by helping to design their own experience.

700,000 Hours wandering hotel, brought to you by the brains behind Dar Ahlam in Morocco, will allow guests to choose its location each year.

Guests can also get a true ‘scents’ of place at Hotel Magna Pars Suites Milano where they can choose the fragrance of their room in this old perfume factory, and at The VIEW Lugano in Switzerland where the smell is not the only choice to make in advance of a stay but the colour of their toilet paper, brand of toiletries and linens, as well as when to have their bag unpacked are all ways guests can customise their experience.

ARANUI Cruises is adding a special cruise to one of the most remote destinations in the world, #Pitcairn Island, as part of its bumper 2019 cruise program of 20 voyages in the South Pacific.

It’s the first time the Tahitian adventure cruise line has offered a different itinerary from its regular roundtrip voyage from Papeete to the Marquesas, Society and Tuamotu islands, and marks the first new destinations added to the program since Bora Bora was introduced in 2015. The line’s 125-metre long mixed cargo and passenger vessel Aranui 5 will start the year with a new 13-day roundtrip cruise from Papeete to Pitcairn Island departing on January 10, 2019.

The one-off voyage includes the cruise line’s inaugural calls to the palm-fringed crystal-clear lagoons of Anaa and Amanu in the Tuamotus; Mangareva and Aukena in the Gambiers, which both offer pristine lagoons perfect for black pearls; and Raivave and Rapa in the Austral Islands, known for their intricate weavings.

World’s first carbon-neutral travel company

SETTING the sustainability bar higher than it had ever been set before, Natural Habitat Adventures became the world’s first carbon-neutral #travel company in 2007. Now, in 2017, Nat Hab celebrates the 10-year anniversary of its carbon offset program, a groundbreaking endeavor that has since offset more than 34.5 million pounds of CO2 for guests’ nature adventures in destinations all around the globe.

As the #conservation travel partner of World Wildlife Fund, Nat Hab noted early the impacts of globetrotting clients on a changing climate. The EPA estimates that about 14 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions are travel-related. Offsetting carbon emissions became mission critical for this nature travel company.

Nat Hab’s carbon offsets encompass every aspect of each adventure—from vehicles on safari in Africa and the American Southwest, to marine diesel in the Galapagos, to energy consumed in lodges all around the world. Carrying through on this promise involves complex calculations—but it’s a commitment that remains core to Nat Hab’s company values as a world leader in conservation travel.
