Egypt targets 20% growth in tourist numbers

SECURITY problems in North Africa do not appear to be curbing the optimism of Egypt’s tourism minister, Hisham Zaazou. He is targeting a 20% growth in tourist numbers this year.

‘We have a plan to contract with major advertising companies to promote Egyptian tourist resorts,’ he says.

He conceded that a recent attack by Islamic terrorists on an Egyptian army base in North Sinai would have an impact, but added that the Egyptian government was fighting terrorism and would ‘lead Egypt to safety’.
