BA in combined air/rail ticket deal

TRAVELLERS from the West of England and Wales will be able to combine rail and air travel in one ticket following a partnership between British Airways, Heathrow Express, and First Great Western (FGW).

The tickets will be available through travel agents and from 11 First Great Western stations including Oxford, Bristol Parkway and Cardiff.

BA’s head of UK & Ireland sales Stephen Humphreys said: ‘Our partnership with FGW and Heathrow Express will make flying more accessible and convenient for customers travelling from regions in the UK without local airports.

‘The option also means that if a train is delayed, the customer will be able to get on the next available flight and will receive overnight accommodation if needed. Passengers will also be able to get on the next available train service if a flight is delayed.’

Mark Hopwood, managing director of First Great Western added: ‘For many of our customers, travelling to Heathrow by train already saves time, hassle, and money. This product will make it even more attractive for BA customers looking for a worry-free way to get to Heathrow.’

Go Holiday editor David Kernek comments: Hasn’t BA’s head of UK and Ireland sales been told a) that Wales and the West do have local airports, namely Cardiff and Bristol and b) that nobody Wales and the West – and in their right mind – would elect to fly from Heathrow if there were suitable flights from Cardiff or Bristol?
