More tee off, and go to Spain to do it

GOLFERS in four key European markets take more golf breaks now than they did in 2009, according to new research.

The survey, commissioned by the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), was conducted with core golfers (those playing at least 12 times per year) in the largest European golf markets: France, Germany, Sweden, and the UK.

The findings also indicate that Spain continues to be the first choice of golf destination in each of the country’s surveyed. The second most popular golfing destination is Portugal.

Commenting on the findings, IGTM exhibition manager, Peter Grimster, said: ‘The findings demonstrate the buoyant state of golf tourism at the present time.’

*The five-star La Manga Club is seeking an unprecedented achievement as it looks to be named the best golf resort in Spain for a fourth consecutive year.

The multi-award-winning venue, in Murcia, south-east Spain, has been the unanimous choice of readers in the annual travel awards of the UK's best-selling golf magazine, Today's Golfer, for the last three years. It once again heads the list of nominees for the coveted title.

La Manga Club – three times the size of Monaco – has three 18-hole championship golf courses, and a nine-hole academy course.
