GREECE’S tourism industry is
expecting an upturn in the number of German holidaymakers visiting their
country this year.
‘2014 will be the year that
Greece sees a complete re-instatement in demand for travel to Greece on the
part of the German market,’ says Andreas Andreadis of the Association of Greek
Tourism Enterprises (AGTE). ‘We anticipate that arrivals from Germany will
range between 2.5 and 2.7 million this year, up from 2.3 million in 2013. Beyond
the impressive increase in demand, we have also observed a clear turn-around in
the way Greece is viewed in the eyes of German visitors … as a travel
destination with superior attributes and improved value for money in comparison
with the past.’
A decision to open 30 of
Greece’s most significant museums and ancient sites, which attract 90 percent of
total visitor numbers, from 8am to 8pm between April and October has made a
particularly positive impression on potential visitors, says Mr Andreadis.
